Events in our lives, can define us and change the course of our lives forever, this is mine...
The Berrie B Foundation has been set up to honour Berrie’s life, by helping other dogs and to say thank you, Berrie, you truly are and always will be, my little soul mate and inspiration!
Berrie was diagnosed with Pancreatitis at 2 years old and an auto-immune disease Thrombocytopenia (IMT) (something I had never heard of, until Berrie's diagnosis) at 4years 3months which eventually took her, at the tender age of 4years 7months. This compelled me, to try and help future 'Berrie's', in doing my part to help find a cure, so that your dog and you, never have to go through this pain and only know of these diseases, through reading this, not experiencing them.
The Berrie B Foundation helps by providing funds (by my personal monthly contribution, public donations and a yearly Charity Trike/Bike Ride), towards the research into these diseases, to better understand why this afflicts certain dogs, find better treatments and hopefully one day, cures! (all research is carried out at a microscopic level, no animals are used, at any time).
I've used Berrie's images of her Pancreatitis flare ups and the first sign of Berrie having Thrombocytopenia (I always took photos so I could show the vet, rather than trying to explain), in the hope that if you see these signs, it could save your dogs life.
Medicine is jumping in leaps and bounds and with continued research into Pancreatitis and how the immune system attacks, many more lives can be saved. This research is headed by Dr Penny Watson MA, VetMD, CertVR, DSAM, Dip ECVIM, FRCVS and European Specialist in Small Animal Medicine at The Queens Veterinary School Hospital, Cambridge University, Cambridge, UK
Alfie's Legacy Fund was set up on the 01st Dec 2016 and I envisioned myself and Berrie travelling around the country for years ahead helping dogs at The Dogs Trust Centres, never realising I would be in this position (the passing of Berrie) today, to bring awareness and helping to find a cure (by fund raising for research) in these diseases, that suddenly afflicted my Berrie and leading me to Dr Penny Watson, her research and creating The Berrie B Foundation. .
